Cut out wedding dress - Lady Gaga desinger

Um.. not so sure about this one!

UK model and DJ Lady Mary Chateris (don't worry I have no idea who she is either) got wed at the start of this month in a Pam Hogg designer dress.

Who is Pam Hogg I hear you say? Well she has dressed the likes of Lady Gaga and its not surprise to see why Gaga chose her to dress her when you look at this wedding dress!!

What looks like mesh cut outs and silk panels with a tulle ruffle skirt aaaaand long sleeves, is totally not my cup of tea, you shouldn't be able to see your belly button on your wedding day right?!!

I believe you should always wear whatever the heck you want so good for her, she has the figure for it but the mesh and the seems and the low jutting out mermaid skirt. It just really doesn't work at all.

What do you think?  Would you be game enough to wear a dress like this for your wedding?

Video invitations

Happy Monday!

Ive been browsing the internet on one of my favourite wedding blogs (greenweddingshoes.com) and came across this awesome Save the date wedding video -click link below.

I have never seen a video invite before and thought it was such a great way to get the word out to your guests especially if like us they are all over the world. I love making youtube videos so this is something I would consider doing.

I love how this couple did the video together, it is so cute and such a good effort. It took them 15 hours to complete.  I'm not sure my fiance would be able to paint for that long but I really like the creativity behind it!

What do you think, would you be game enough to create a video?

Unique wedding gift ideas

While I won't be expecting any gifts as we are having a destination wedding and our guests presence will be presents enough, I thought I would discuss unique wedding gift ideas as I'm sure once you start going to a few weddings you will quickly run out of ideas or get worried someone might bring along the same gift!

Here are some unique ideas for those hard to buy for brides and grooms without a gift registry.... or you just want to give a gift that is truely different.

Bird Nesting House

This cute bird nesting house will add a nice sweet touch to any newlyweds garden by British writer and designer Sophie Conran.

There is nothing nicer than watching a pair of birds move in and start a family. Simply hang up, ideally at least a couple of metres off the ground and wait for the new inhabitants to arrive.
-  Mr Sparrow (http://mrsparrow.com/shop-1/sophie-conran-birdhouse)

Price: AUD$32.00

Mystery Tube
A postage tube filled with unique and original art by artist Kirst Ohh.   The idea behind the mystery tube is that for $65 you buy an original piece of art but you have no idea what it is until it arrives in the post or is given as a gift!

Price: AUD$ 65.00 (Postage included)

Weekend hire of a luxury sports car

Why not treat your friends with a Porche Boxter for an entire weekend (three days)! If you are lucky they might even treat you to a ride.

Table Settings

How gorgeous is this table setting?!

Source: http://theweddingtree.tumblr.com

Teal, gold and white.  So chic and crisp it works so well together and having a contrasting table runner makes the whole setting pop.  Ziz zag is one of my ultimate favourite patterns with its simple angles it adds an optical element and makes is SNAZZY!

The coloured rim of the plate is amazing, I die for this colour.  My absolute favourite in the whole entire world.

As I get closer to a year out from my own wedding I am starting to think about how I really want things to look.

This picture from theweddingtree tumblr blog is a great inspiration.

What are your favourite colour combos?

facebooking weddings!

This is so funny!

I don't think i will be jumping on facebook the minute I say I do, as I will be having way to much fun for that.

BUT it brings up an interesting point about your guests racing to upload pics before you have even said "i do", kissed each other and walked down the isle together.

While I hate for the surprise to be ruined via facebook when the professional photos look so much better than ones off phones taken way up the back of the ceremony... I am totally guilty of loving when someone uploads a pic of the bride and groom from whatever wedding I wasnt invited to!

The way I see it, at least your friend or family member who is uploading is just excited and wants to spread the love and celebration of seeing their fave people tie the knot.

Coloured Wedding Dresses

I am the queen of colour. I live for colour.  So when it comes to a wedding dress I have thought about the possibility of having a coloured wedding dress.
(for about 5 seconds).

I do like the idea of  heavy colour accents in the accessories with a ivory gown but for fun and seeing as i am so into colour I thought why not do a bit of research and see what options there are out there.

To my surprise, colour is very in at the moment.

Muted tones and pastel colours are a great option when deciding on a coloured wedding dress. It just works better, you want to look elegant, beautiful and sophisticated on your wedding day so having an offensively bright dress can detract from actual wedding a little and create more of a shock factor. (think gypsy wedding, this one happens to have put her bridesmaids in the offensive dresses, I know mine would die if i made them wear these!!  he he )

 -Gypsy wedding-

If you are into shock and over the top-ness then go for it girl!  There is absolutely nothing wrong with that but for me, while I inject colour into nearly every aspect of my life (and I mean bright colour….see my website kirstohh.com if you are not yet familiar with my style), I think a soft version of colour would work best if i was to do it.

I really like the idea of using an evening gown as an option  for a wediding dress- your wedding dress doesn't even have to be technically made to be a wedding dress.  Any haute couture gown will work perfectly!

The location we have chose wouldn’t really work with a big beacon of a dress anyway so softer colours and metallics are what I prefer If I was to go down the coloured route.

At the end of the day the bride can do whatever the heck she wants – its her wedding dress and her wedding day.  I love how you are the only one who can decide, its really lovely to have a day where it is all about you and all up to you.  I am definitely enjoying that aspect of it, especially as we all live such busy lives and I am often catering to others. To take the time out to write these blogs and research on the internet and magazines has become my special time. I LOVE IT!  Those of you engaged or already married will understand this, those who are yet to be trust me it is so fun and exciting and definitely something to look forward to.  You can do whatever you want, however simple or extravagant as you like.  This is your one and only day so make it count!

Kate Waterhouse and Luke Ricketson wedding in Sicily

Gorgeous Kate Waterhouse got married yesterday!

She wore a lovely chiffon and silk gown with her hair up and had a beautiful simple bouquet of what looks like white lilys.  The long stems wrapped in ribbon are so pretty.

Kate and her now husband Luke Ricketson tied the knot in Taormina, Sicily just shy of a year since they got engaged in the same area last July.

Mum and Dad, Rob and Gai and a small group of family and friends helped the happy couple celebrate their big day.

Kate is the daughter of Gai Waterhouse, fancy horse owner lady in Australia.

I love how her husband wore blue, its such a nice change from black or dark grey and gave it an edgy look that really worked in the location in Sicily.  Surprisingly, I even like the whole outfit with the bow tie and pocket square. Luke totally pulled it off.

Maybe I can convince my fiance to choose a brighter colour for his suit....hmmmm doubt it!

Vanessa Manillo and Nick Lachey's Dream Wedding!

Destination Wedding!

I stumbled across these videos on youtube, because they are in America I didn't know there was a Tv special about their wedding.  As I watched on I was pleasantly surprised to find out they decided to do a destination wedding!

I cried through the whole thing (well just the wedding part) but it was cool to see the whole process from planning to trying on dresses and having a lingerie shower(woo hoo!)  to executing the wedding on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. (Sir Richard Brandson's private island).

 Photocredit: ivorywhiteboutique.com

There were lots of cool ideas like having a big wedding olympics in one of the days before the wedding on the isand, a way to get all their friends and family together and have a lot of fun running around on the beach. And some cute fun ways to hold the reception.

Definitely one to watch, they are such an awesome couple! Do grab a box of tissues before you sit down though haha

Chain bracelet - The Toussaints

Chain and thread - a unique take on the friendship bracelet

I got mail! This awesome bracelet arrived yesterday, a clever way of modernising the friendship bracelet with the combination of hard and soft: chain and thread.

See video below:

A friend of mine Alana runs the blog http://thetoussaints.com where she posts about all things creative.  After a trip to Thailand a short while ago where she saw loads of friendship bracelets for sale at the markets and around the place she decided to have a go at making her own. (see her blog post about it here: http://www.thetoussaints.com/2012/06/chain.html)

I love how she has introduced the gold chain into its design, it gives it a point of interest and all of a sudden the traditional friendship bracelet is edgy and fashionable!

I requested a CMYK coloured one but you can get pretty much any colourways made and she has made some realy beautiful ones.  I would love to get her to make me a long chain necklace with bright turquoise interlaced through it for my wedding so hopefully we can make that happen over the next year!

In terms of weddings, these would be a fab idea as gifts for your friends or bridesmaids.  They are only NZD$19.95 and all handmade by Lana.

If you have any queries send her an email at alana@thetoussaints.com

Loving my new bracelet - Thanks so much Alana!!
